Numbers
As a child, I counted from one
Eagerly memorizing each numeral
Two, three, and four
I wanted to count until I could not count no more
I learned to count up until the thousand
More and more each day, the tens, the hundred thousands
Recently though life has been changing me
Instead of counting up and further, the numbers dwindle until they're less than three
I count down the days, I count down the moments, the time I am left before the curtain closes
Two, it is almost done
One more night and this is my goodbye
What's next after the one is gone? Where do you go when it has transpired?
My zero is on the horizon, the time has come
I have learned to count down
I have returned to my start.
